Classical Guitar Master David Tanenbaum has achieved what every musician strives for; he has become the music. David & I met in our mid-teens when we both studied with the same instructor. I consider David to be one of the very few geniuses I have encountered. He began studying the classical guitar at age 14, & at age 16 was touring the world performing a Vivaldi concerto with the Joffrey Ballet-just David's guitar and the dancers. He has never let up in his pursuit of musical excellence - he has achieved it, and is one of the greatest classical guitarists in the world. |
Fine British Jazz Guitarist/Bassist/Composer, currently residing in NY. Alisdair was my classmate in the graduate music program at Purchase College. In addition to his high jazz acumen, he is an authority on African music. |
Carl Barry is a great jazz guitarist & Joanne is a wonderful jazz singer, & they are my dear friends. Over our many years of playing together Carl & I have developed an almost telepathic rapport. Carl is all about the MUSIC. |
Dan is a great guitarist who I have known since high school. One day he was playing bass in a country rock band with me, & the next day he seemed to have simply awoken as a jazz guitarist. They don't call him "Dangerous Dan" for nothing! |
Jonny Johansson is a fabulous guitarist, originally from Sweden, now of NYC. He plays a 9-string guitar of his own design, fingerstyle, and is a groundbreaking musician. |
Joe Beck was a legendary jazz guitarist, studio star & widely recorded composer. He sadly passed away in July 2008, at the age of 62. He improvised with great originality, swung like mad, & was a gas to play with - it was an honor to know him, & to share the bandstand with him. He is missed... |
Rob is equally brilliant on violin & bass. He is violinist with the "String Trio of New York" & "The Mahavishnu Project", & performs with me @ 107WEST on both instruments. |
Ron McClure is a legendary bassist, who's credits range from Joe Henderson & Chick Corea, to Blood, Sweat & Tears & his own original ensemble. Our performances together have been musical highlights for me. He is a master. |
Matthew Harris is a superb contemporary composer. Check out his website for current recordings & upcoming performances of his beautiful compositions. Matt is also a lifelong friend & colleague. |
Don Price is a great jazzer from the left coast & a chill dude w/ a radical website... |
Peter is one of NYC's finest jazz guitarists. I have known him since he was a student in Jack Wilkins' jazz guitar history class at Manhattan School of Music, & I was there fairly often to soak up the sounds & stories. He went on to be a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz competition-perhaps the most prestigious & difficult of it's kind. He currently holds forth every Sunday evening 8:00-11:30, at 'The Bar Next Door' at 'La Lanterna di Vittorio' on MacDougal Street between West 3rd and West 4th in NYC's Greenwich Village.
