The single best jazz performance I saw all year was at Borders Bookstore in White Plains, NY, Friday, December 5th, 1997, when guitar ace Joe Giglio and his trio captivated a crowd of young and old listeners drawn in by Giglio's nimble playing, but kept close at hand all night by his exquisite improvisational skills. It was a great example of talent and taste, and the ability to communicate with an audience, elevating everyone - players and listeners alike- above the stresses and strains of everyday life, if even just for a little while.

The Joe Giglio Trio came out beboppin' with Joe applying his sweet Gibson tone and well crafted lines to classics like "All The Things You Are", "Have You Met Miss Jones" and "Summertime".

 When I first began to appreciate jazz I perceived of it as an almost holy experience. Improvisation was a concept that struck me as being pure, offering an opportunity to honestly express oneself.
